DyDAn is offering a new two-day workshop on the mathematics of homeland security for high school teachers.
The workshop will introduce high school teachers to mathematical topics in homeland security and enable them to bring these topics into their classrooms. Material will be presented by prominent researchers who are involved in applying mathematics to homeland security.
The workshop will enable teachers to introduce students to how mathematics is applied to problems such as the following:
- Using mathematical modeling of the spread of diseases to identify preventive strategies and best responses to bioterrorism
- Inspecting containers at ports
- Locating sensors to detect chemical, biological, or nuclear threats
- Searching data for evidence of conspiracies
- Identifying the author of a document
